a new beginnning

They traveled as swiftly as three hungry wolves could -- Prosper's once muscular body had thinned devastatingly in the past few months of the famine, and he could feel the weariness in his muscles as he kept moving forward. Still, there was purpose in his gait, and with Lycaon and Atreill to support him, he found his focus steadied.

His nose lifted to the air, hoping to follow the scent of the herds. They had returned, though were not as plentiful as they once had been. The afternoon sun beamed down upon the wolf, reminding him that summer's heat would be upon them soon.

They finally came upon them -- a small herd of roe deer. They were smaller than the white tial, but he would not be picky on such matters. His green eyes scoured the beasts before them, soon moving forth to test their stamina. The shuffled nervously to his presence, but only one seemed more fearful of him than the others -- an elder deer that seemed to be injured at the hind limb.

His eyes seeking out his companions, he motioned that this would be their meal, and they should gather to heed it off. With a quick snap of his jowls, he caught the beats just short of it's shoulder, causing it to bray and kick away, soon causing the herd to disperse. Quick on his paw,s hunger driving him, Prosper raced after the elder, hoping Atreill and Lycaon would head it off.

Lycaon left only drive even though his body had felt weirry only moments ago. The hunt had started and he was going to do his best to help catch there next meal. Hungry drove him but not just that, the need to feed his pack mates drove him also.

The elder slowed for half a second to catch it's breath and Lycaon almost made the mistake of going for it when he saw that it was just preparing to give off a short burst of speed. Of which would've made him miss his target and fall onto the ground like a new born pup when it hadn't yet learned to walk properly. Lycaon used this chance to get beside the deer and drive it to a more dense section of the forest, where the deer would have to slow down and hopefully be killed by Atreill. If she was in position.

The black female had been to the herd before, her scent would be fully known among them, so the female had circuled back so that she could had the shelter of the trees to pretect her identity and sheild her scent frlm the rest of the deer. Her muscles ached to run forth eith the two males, snap at its hind legs and bark in its face. No, this needed to be a clean and quick kill if she was going to have any strength by the end to stay on her feet. 

The black shadow was now at the other end of the clearing, readying her jaw and flexing her thin mucsles. She wasn't the most perfect option for this type of job in the hunt, the one to have the strength to pull down the deer as it ran past. She watched from a safe distance as the males drove the old deer towards her, its eyes full of agony and terrior. Forcing the thought out of her mind, the female coiled herself back. She could not feel pity towards the deer for it was what was going to feed the pack and feed herself, it was what was going to keep them alive.

The deer was panting like a old dog by the time the deer had been droven into the forest thickets, forcing the deer to slow to prevent any more causaltys to itself from the clump trees and thick brambles. Its breath was the first she heard of it and as it grew nearer, adreline fueled her lunge. The mussle of the deer coming around the tree was her cue to leap, her front paws splayed out infront and her jaw hung open. The deer was half dead already from running and it seemed almost relived as the black wolf barrled into it's slim neck. Her jaws sunk and locked onto its soft flesh and her head spun with the pleasure of the warm, tricklykng blood flowing into her mouth. 

Of cause the deer still had fight in it, and her lunge had not toppled the deer right over, for a tree on the other side had kept it from falling tl the ground and having surtain death at the black wolf teeth. It bucked and swung it's soft neck with surprising strength for how thin and lean it was. Atreill only hoped the males weren't far behind since she feared her strength could faulter at any moment hanging ontk the thrashing beast.

Lycaon watched amazed at Atreill caught the deer and hung on as she tried to get the killing blow. Seeing her destress though he lept forward and pulled the deer down to the earth pinning it and waiting for Atreill to kill it. It was her kill he thought, she deserved it.

As the brute helped her tug the dying beast to the ground, its splayed hooves still a danger to them. Atreill wasn't having a good day and one of its flaying hooves caught her on the shoulder, pushing her back from its thin neck. The deer had not helped itself for psuhing her away, the deer had simply quickened its death as her canies sliced though its windpipe with the movement of being pushed back, the deer seconds later drowned in its own blood as its open wound flowed into its exposed windpipe. Panting deeply, Atreill offered a rare wolfy simle to her friend, before her face went back to it's normal, unemotional self.

Sucking in as much air as she could, the black female throw back her head and let out her breath that echoed from the depth of her belly, ringing up her throat and out of her maw as a howl. It was a plain howl of victory but also for the deer, for it had faught hard and fast and didn't give up till the last moment. Once she was finished, Atreill stood back from the dead deer and bowed, waiting for the alpha to arrive and get first pickings upon the spoils.

ooc. Kind of sad I was skipped? I was bed ridden for a week/couldn't get up..

His two Hunter's were upon the beast within seconds -- the tawny regal watched, mesmerized at the grace they both held as they wove around the deer, and as he stirred forward to aim a calculated blow to the deer's side, the creature already lay dead in a pool of its blood.

Atreill was fierce, but the risk she took had him undecided to what her skill truly was -- a single wolf could not take down a deer alone, no matter it's age, but luckily Lycaon had been there to pin the creature. He offered a nod of approval to both, his mind calculating about ranks and where they were best suited. For now, the pack was in disarray and he would make no movement to shuffle them.

A nod was given to the dark femme's shoulder where the deer had kicked her. "Are you hurt?" There was concern laced in his tone, especially given the pack had no Healer left to speak of. His muzzle bowed to the deer, his paws taking a pace back. He would not take from their victory, despite his rank, and nor would he fill his stomach until the rest of the pack had eaten.. at least not during these dark days.

Atreill could feel heat radiating from her cheeks as the alpha spoke to her, directily.A slight smile appeared on her face, for she adorded the alpha for his strength and power, her had gone through hell with the pack and had kept them standing. At first she just stared at the alpha with a dumb face before she acually realized that he had asked her a question. Shaking her head, the huntress glanced down at her shoulder, for now that the adreline weared off, pain creeped into her system. The hoove had been strong but poorly directed from the dying deer, the edge had caught her skin and ripped it like it was paper, blood matted with her black fur, almost making it look a dark crimson red.

"I assure you, it looks worst than it is" The black female soothed, her voice blowing over. It was unlike her to flirt, but come on, who coildn't when the alpha was speaking to you? The huntress walked slowly back to the deer, covering up the faint limp coming to her leg. Quickly the female  grabed the deer by the neck and started to drag it up, back to the meadows, for there it would be easier to protect their prize and share it amoung the pack.

Lycaon blinked as he watched Atreill flirt with the Alpha. Flirt! He shook his head almost jealous and sighed. Getting up he smiled politely at Prosper and then went to help Atreill haul the animal to where she wanted it to go.

(Don't be sorry Atreill I was the one who skipped over Prosper. I am right after him. So I"m sorry. I didn't know that there was a thread order but now that I do I'll make sure to go by it.)

(It's fine guys! It's more of a matter that it sucks because I had to play Prosper like he stood there dumbstruck rather than helping out. <3)

Atreill's words allowed the male to give her a simple nod, completely oblivious that she had been attempting to flirt with him -- whether it was his lack of experience in such an area, or that his heart was on other matters, it was hard to say. As she clamped her jaws down to carry the deer further up the hill, the golden male moved beside the other silver male to aide her.

As they reached the top, Prosper lifted his muzzle to bump his nose to both of their cheeks in quiet praise, his eyes turning to shift across the forest that was their home. At least, theirs for as long as they could hold it. Tilting his muzzle back, the Alpha called for any other pack member in the vicinity to join them for the feast -- today, Shrouded Forest wolves would at least have food in their belly, thanks to his two hunters.
